Ashby Goldstein has a long history with Penny’s Camp. In addition to attending both the Drum Major and Leadership camps for three years as a high school student, he was also on the Leadership Academy staff for ten years before becoming the Penny’s Camp Director in 2013.

In August 2022, Mr. Goldstein will begin his appointment as the Director of Bands and Music Education at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Previously, he taught middle and high school bands in the state of Florida for 15 years before teaching courses in Music Education as a Graduate Teaching Associate at The Ohio State University, where he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in music education.

During his tenure as the Director of Bands at Sebastian River High School, he served as the Fine Arts Department Chair and the Indian River County Music Coordinator. Under his direction, the Wind Symphony performed at the 2016 Western International Band Clinic in Seattle, WA, and the marching band was awarded eight grand championships at various competitions in Florida and Georgia. While at Gifford Middle School, his bands performed at the Florida Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference, the University of Georgia's Middle School Band Festival, the Music for All National Middle School Music Festival, and the National Band Association/College Band Directors National Association Southern Division Conference.

Mr. Goldstein has been awarded two Citations of Excellence from the National Band Association and is a former member of the Florida Music Educators Association Emerging Leaders Committee. He was selected as the 2014 Gifford Middle School Teacher of the Year, the 2020 Sebastian River High School Teacher of the Year, and is a two-time finalist for the School District of Indian River County's Teacher of the Year. Mr. Goldstein has presented at the Florida, Texas, Georgia, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Indiana music education association conferences. He is an active Florida Bandmasters Association adjudicator for both concert and marching band Music Performance Assessments and has conducted honor bands in Florida, Georgia, and Montana.

Mr. Goldstein graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida State University with a bachelor's degree in instrumental music education. He holds a Master's degree in instrumental conducting from Southern Oregon University and anticipates graduating from Ohio State with a Ph.D. in music education in 2022.
